This is NO role for religion in making laws. The need for a secular society is important to maintain a free society where people can worship as they wish. When religion is part of the government it becomes a state religion that doesn’t allow for the freedom of religion. When the English colonies began some came to escape the persecution by the state because they refused to worship according to the government rules.
