Religions are not necessary. You should see no obstacles prevent you in your path of life. If anything hinders the thoughts of justice, love and humanity then such things (even if it's a religion) may be rooted out completely from the world. A religion's motive must be developing the friendship, love and moral among people not the partiality and sectional feelings. A religion should not act like a political party. The leaders of the religions are also human beings. They did not come from God. They read the religious books and preach. You can do this yourself. You need not join in a group and shrink yourself and get yourself separated from the outer world.
One can study in any school or college to acquire the knowledge he/she needs for his/her better future. In the same way one can read any religious matters to acquire moral knowledge for a better life. Joining in something, behaving like political party members will cause only head-ache and unnecessary tensions.
By making sure that every religion is permitted to practice their religion freely without the need to pay for it. in the new Bollywood film JODHAA - AKBAR, near to the denouement of the film he realises that Hindus have to pay a pilgrimage tax to go on their sacred pilgrimage. However i think pilgrims who went to MECCA didnt have to. He abolished the Pilgrimage tax and declared at the end of the movie that every single religion in Hindustan should be allowed and will be allowed to practice their religion freely. This again, is based on a Bollywood Film, not historical facts. didn

Pretty much all of it. Religion may be important in history to show where civilizations got their beliefs off of, but now? It shouldn't be involved. Religion is a personal choice. You don't have to have one.
Emperor Akbar's policies had a significant impact on religion in the Mughal Empire as he promoted religious tolerance and policies of inclusivity. He abolished the jizya tax on non-Muslims, encouraged interfaith dialogues, and even built a new religion called Din-i Ilahi that blended elements of Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, and Zoroastrianism. This approach helped create a more diverse and harmonious religious landscape in the empire.
