There is a tradition regarding a Saint Morris, more widely known as St. Maurice but also as Moritz or Mauritius, who was supposedly the leader of a legendary Roman Theban Legion in the third century. In folk culture Maurice became associated with the legend of a spear that was claimed to have been used to pierce the side of Jesus.
