Mission Santa Clara de Asís was founded by a Spanish priest named Father Junipero Serra in 1777. It was the eighth of the 21 California missions established by the Spanish Franciscans.
Padre Viader, an athletic man, was in charge of the mission.
A secular priest is a priest who does not live according to a rule of a religious order, society, or congregation of priests. He is a priest who does not take the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience of the members of a religious order, but instead promises obedience to a diocesan bishop and to live a celibate life. Most parishes are administered by a secular priest and parish work is his main canonical mission. Today, a secular priest is often called a diocesan or archdiocesan priest. Secular priest is differentiated from regular priest (regular priest meaning a priest living according to a rule, regula in Latin, like the Franciscans, Dominicans, and Jesuits), better known today as religious order priest. Today, there is not much difference in the academic training of a secular priest and a regular priest because they often study in the same college and graduate theology schools/universities though they may differ in the mission, vision, and spiritual formations since a regular priest has additional training unique to the order, congregation, or society he belongs to.
St. Benedict was never a priest. At times he lived the life of a hermit, abbot, founder of monasteries but never a priest.
Padre Junipero Serra was a Spanish Franciscan friar who founded several missions in California in the 18th century. He is known for his role in the colonization of California and the conversion of Native Americans to Christianity. Serra was later canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church.

The Apalachee were called the Mission Indians because they were Native American people who lived in the Spanish missions established by Spanish colonizers in Florida during the 17th and 18th centuries. The Spanish sought to convert the Apalachee to Christianity and assimilate them into Spanish colonial society through these missions. The Apalachee were among several indigenous groups in the region who were brought into the missions in an effort to control and Christianize the native populations.
The two friars associated with the Santa Barbara Mission are Father Junípero Serra, the founder of the California mission system, and Father Francisco de la Asunción, who served as the first resident priest at the mission. The mission was established in 1786 and is known for its beautiful architecture and significant role in California's history.
They are called a mission because it was the priest's mission to turn the Indians Catholic.
Junipero Serra, a Spanish Franciscan friar known for his mission work in California, took a vow of celibacy and did not have any biological children.

At Santa Barbara, the priest, likely referring to Father Junípero Serra, played a significant role in establishing Mission Santa Barbara in 1786 as part of the Spanish mission system in California. He aimed to convert the local Chumash people to Christianity and promote agriculture and European customs. The mission became a vital center for religious, cultural, and economic activities in the region. Serra's efforts contributed to the spread of Christianity and European influence in California.
If you mean a mission as in a Spanish mission from 1610-1680 the jobs included things such as the Priest (of course) and Indian helpers. The priest baptized babies brought to him and converted the Pueblo Indians to Catholic. The Indians helped in anyways possible and they built the missions using adobe bricks built in Spanish style with vi-gas to support the roof and a bell tower on top to call the Indians and Spaniards to church. The priest also started a school to teach the Catholic religion to other Indians. Sometimes the mission would have Spanish warriors to protect the priest and anyone who disobeyed the priest. Mission was a group of Indians that obeyed the Preist. If I got it Right, i hope it helps :)
