Prior to the creation of man God also created all the land animals. Of course the generic term man also includes the sexes, male and female.

On the fourth day God created the celestial bodies that give the light we see. The light that God created on the first day was from some other unknown source. Perhaps it came from pressure waves (light to no light) of a special kind of plasma that filled space from which came the stars of the heavens.

Since the creation was completed and very good, God had nothing left to do in terms of creating. He rested, not as we do due to tiredness, but because He had finished what He had to do. This resting became the eternal Sabbath day where the week was given to all mankind for a time measurement.
