'Too many cooks spoil the broth', 'Many hands make light work', 'Red sky at night, shepherd's delight, red sky at morning shepherd's warning' are all proverbs. But one thing that puzzles me is that the first two contradict themselves, 'Too many cooks....' means that too many people doing the wrong thing they will end up ruining it, but 'Many hands....' means that the more people doing a job the better, and the quicker it will get done!!

The material about (Lady) Wisdom could be pre-Exilic, as she was probably the Hebrew goddess of wisdom before the Exile. Some of the other material dates from well before the Exile, but appears to be based on Egyptian proverbial sayings. While some of the material in the Book of Proverbs could have originated during the early monarchy, there is nothing that links it to a royal author.Jewish answer:Proverbs has 915 verses, but most of the verses have two halves which in many cases can serve as two proverbs.
