That is it could be put up and taken down quickly and during the 40 year trek in the wilderness this was done a lot of times. Then when the children of Israel entered the Promised Land the tabernacle went with them for a short period of time and then it was placed in Shiloh were it remained for many years until the Philistines destroyed it. Then for some years parts of the tabernacle (Furniture etc) was scattered in different places in Israel. Then later it was put together by David the King and brought to Jerusalem. David wanted to build a more permanent building or temple for the Lord, but David was a man of blood (war) and was not allowed to build the temple, but he was allowed to gather materials etc for the building of the temple. God had decided that Solomon, King Davids son was the suitable person to build the temple, and so he did.
