Paul was simply stating that we should not put our trust in superstition. That's not good wisdom. There are so many such as..dont put your purse on your bed because you will lose money. My favorite is a man must be the first to come to your house after the new year, if not you will have bad luck for the rest of the year. put your trust in a God that never changes..
