Genesis 4: 3 reads: After some time, Cain brought some fruits of the land as an offering to Jehovah. verse 4 reads But Abel brought some firstlings of his flock, including their fat. While Jehovah looked with favour on Abel and on his offering.
We should understand that the problem was not in the quality of produce that Cain offered. As Hebrew 11: 4 points out, Cain's offering lacked the motivation of faith that made Abel's sacrifice acceptable.
1 Samuel 16: 7; Psalms 139: 1-6 show that Jehovah reads the heart of man. So He was able to see that Cain's motivation was not pure.
Cain was previously warned by Jehovah concerning his attitude. Genesis 4: 6,7 reads: "Then Jehovah said to Cain: " Why are you sa angry and dejected? If you turn to doing good, will you not be restored to favour? But if you do not turn to doing good, sin is crouching at the door, and its craving is to dominate you; but will you get the mastery over it?"
But Cain chose to ignore God's counsel to get the mastery over sinful desire that "lurked at the door," craving to dominate him. Read James 1: 14,15.
Jude 11 shows that this kind of attitude is the disrespectful course " the path of Cain." Hebrew 11: 4 shows that the Apostle Paul lists Abel as the first man of faith and shows that this resulted in his sacrifice being of "greater worth" than Cain's offering.
By contrast, 1 John 3: 11,12 shows Cain's heart attitude to have been bad; and his later rejection of God's counsel and warning, as well as his premeditated murder of his brother Abel.
We should remember that everything written in The Bible is written for our instruction. Read Romans 15: 4; Proverbs 9. 9; Matthew 4: 4 and that Cain and Abel's story has a lot of advice for us on daily bases. Read Galatians 5:19-21.
