17Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. 18For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. 19For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. 20When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper. 21For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken. 22What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? what shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not. Paul here was 'not impressed' with the irreverent and divisive attitudes which were being shown by the Corinthians in the observance of the Lord's Supper. Evidently there was a degree of self-indulgence as well relating to the common meal which they also used to share at the same time. His rebuke was intended of course to bring them back into line and behave as true Christians should. Although his concern was about the behavior of the Corinthians, the concern he has relates to the importance he places on this central celebration which is a solemn remembrance of what Jesus did in laying down His life. If this was just a church fete he would not have had such a concern. The high degree of concern he demonstrates here indicates the high esteem of importance he places on the Lord's Supper and the consequent seriousness of the behavior of the Corinthian believers. The behavior of the Corinthians is held up against the light of truth which they were supposedly celebrating. The dis-unity they demonstrated was contrary to the unity which was meant to be evidenced around this meal - commemorating around one of the events most central to the Christian faith. The evident lack of appropriate solemnity indicative of a lack of awareness of what they were remembering. Thus it is in the light of the great reverence and high regard Paul has for this celebration that he finds such a stark and unacceptable contrast with the behavior of the Corinthians.

What books in the Bible did Paul write?

Paul did not write a book or epistle on his first missionary journey. In fact, it appears to have been quite a few years before he first wrote an epistle. In one of his earliest epistles, the Epistle to the Galatians, Paul said that after his conversion, he travelled to Arabia, then Damascus (bypassing Jerusalem), Jerusalem, then Syria and Cilicia, and back to Jerusalem. He must have spent 3 years in Damascus, 14 years in Syria and Cilicia, and indeterminate periods in the other centres, before he even wrote this epistle.

What does 1 Corinthians 1527 in the King James version mean?

1 Corinthians 15:27 in the King James Version states, "For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him." This verse means that God has placed all things under Jesus' authority, except for God himself who gave Jesus this authority. It emphasizes Jesus' supreme position as the ruler of all creation.

What does Paul mean when he says that love endures all things?

A:Paul talks about this in the First Epistle to the Corinthians. 1 Corinthians 13 is a hymn about love*, with verse 13:7 saying love "bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things." The hymn glorifies love as greater than all other emotions. As a pre-Pauline hymn that Paul included in his epistle, we should not look for a meaning unique to Paul himself, but look for why Paul chose to include this hymn. To this end, look at verse 12:31, which says to covet the best of all gifts - whatever else you choose, Paul shows you a more excellent way: love. Then look at verses 14:1, that follows. Again, Paul urges that his readers seek after love. He continues on a related theme saying that the gift of prophecy is a greater gift than speaking in tongues.Footnote* The King James Bible uses the word 'charity' in this context, instead of 'love', but the original Greek text is better translated as 'love'.

What does 2 Corinthians chapter 10 verses 1-8 mean?

Paul had a great deal of trouble in Corinth, with apostles who taught a "different Christ". Obviously, Christian doctrine had become split by the time Paul wrote his epistles, and he had to defend his authority and his teachings strenuously. In this passage, Paul says that he will not fight with weapons of war, nor try to overwhelm the Corinthians with epistles. Ignore everything imagined by others and just obey Jesus. And if another comes, claiming to be the representative of Christ, let him think again: the Lord has given me that authority.

A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace," he says that if the non-Christian husband or wife wishes to leave the marriage, this should not be resisted.
