Son of god means the son that god gave to the earth it could also be answered as gods child given the name son of god Another Answer:For humans, a son or daughter must be begotten of a 'father' and born of a woman - mother. Jesus states several times that He is His Father's Son - and not someone else's. Before Jesus entered into this new Father-Son relationship, He existed as a member of the eternal God Family - called the Word:

John 1:14 (New King James Version -NKJV) The Word Becomes Flesh:

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

You have actually answered your own question. Son of God literally means just that. Christ was literally the first born son of God. Born as a spirit child and sent to earth to gain a body. He also has a heavenly mother but the scriptures are silent regarding her.

In Scripture the name son of God is bestowed on a variety of persons for a variety of reasons. First, it is applied to angels - Job 2:1 - they may be so called because they are the creatures of God's hands or because, as spiritual beings, they resemble God, who is a spirit. Secondly, in Luke 3:38 the title is applied to the first man. Thirdly, it is applied to the Hebrew nation, as when, in Exodus 4:22, God says to Pharaoh, "Israel is my son, my first-born," the reason being that Israel was the object of God's special love and gracious choice. Fourthly, it is applied to the kings of Israel, as representatives of the chosen nation - 2 Samuel 7:14, Psalm 2:7. Finally, in the New Testament, the title is applied to all believers, as in John 1:12, (KJV).

The Son (capital S) of God is used in reference to Jesus in the New Testament. In Luke 1:35, the following reason for this use is given, "And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

Son of God because Mary was conceived by the Holy Spirit not by man. Mary's Son would be God manifest in the flesh.

"Son of God" is a title used to indicate a close relationship or special connection with God, often implying divinity or a divine nature. In Christian theology, it specifically refers to Jesus Christ as the second person of the Trinity, believed to be both fully human and fully divine.

When applied to Jesus, the term Son of God has an ambiguous meaning in modern Christianity. In one sense, Jesus is believed to have existed beside God the Father and one with God (the Holy Trinity) since the beginning of time. On the other hand, with scriptural support, Jesus is regarded as the Son of God, although uncreated.

The earliest of the New Testament gospels, Mark, portrayed Jesus as a man, adopted as son by God at the time of his baptism.

Matthew and Luke provides accounts that portray Jesus as the son of God ('son of God' was capitalised to 'Son of God' during the Middle Ages) from the moment of his divine conception and virgin birth.

John's Gospel creates the scriptural support for Jesus as the divine and eternally pre-existing son of God.
