Some of Christ's teachings from the Sermon on the Mount applied to money and wealth.
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
...
"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and material wealth (mammon)."
The major tenet of the Gospel of Wealth, as advocated by Andrew Carnegie, was the belief that wealthy individuals had a moral obligation to use their wealth to benefit society. Carnegie argued that the rich should practice philanthropy and invest in projects that would help improve the well-being of the less fortunate. He believed in the idea of "surplus wealth" being redistributed for the greater good.
The basis of physiocratic doctrine was the adage that all wealth originated with the land and that agriculture alone could increase and multiply wealth.
Increasing wealth in towns allowed for more elaborate and larger church buildings to be constructed. This led to the construction of cathedrals and other grand churches, with rich decorations and intricate architectural designs. The increase in wealth also contributed to the growth of church influence and power in society.
Andrew Carnegie was the first industrialist to advocate the gospel of wealth. He believed that the wealthy had a responsibility to use their wealth to benefit society and help those less fortunate. Carnegie promoted the idea that the rich should engage in philanthropy and contribute to the welfare of the public.
Wealth is not determined by religious affiliation. Both Puritans and Catholics can vary in economic status. It is not accurate to make a generalization about the wealth of individuals solely based on their religious beliefs.
