A saint is someone who tries to do good and tries to obey the ten commandments (written in The Bible). A sinner can be someone normal because they don't always follow the commandments. For example, everyday millions of people lie, whether it's for a good or bad reason. One of the commandments state that you're not supposed to lie. Therefore, because they lied, they are sinners until they confess (or tell) about all the commandments they broke. I hope this answers your question. By the way, saints aren't alive. They're more like spirits.

Roman Catholic Answer

God calls each one of us to be a saint, Jesus Himself said, "Be ye perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect". A saint is a person to prays and discerns God's will for him and then does it. A sinner is one to ignores God's will and follows his own desires.
