Notice that the 6 in the number of the beast is repeated three times. The number three represents God, because He is a Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Ghost). So, the number of the beast literally means that a particular man (The Beast) is standing in the place of God and is saying that He is God. If you read the entire chapter of Revelation 13, you will see the things that the beast will do.
