The work of a priest includes all of the following:
  • Saying masses for the parish.

  • Hearing confessions and giving advice to help people live better lives.
  • Baptising babies or certain adults who decide to join the catholic church.
  • Praying to God, for the priest himself and others.
  • Going into nearby catholic schools to teach the children about their religion and answer their questions or uncertainties.
  • Going into prisons to talk and comfort convicts and maybe offer them the possibility of joining the catholic church when/if they are fully prepared.
  • Visiting hospitals, mainly patients who are in the parish of the specific priest. Priests may give catholic inpatients communion as well as simply talking to them about how they are. If the patient is near death then the priest will hear their last confession, to ensure the individual has a clean soul before they die and so can be accepted in heaven.
  • Visiting old people's homes.
  • Providing funeral services for the deceased and their relations.
