Catholic AnswerIgnatius of Loyola, whose feast is today (July 31st), lived in the sixteenth century, he was a soldier and was wounded pretty badly when he was about thirty-one, I believe. As he was laid up in bed for a time, he asked for some books on Knights, errantry, and such. All that they had were a Lives of Christ, and Lives of the Saints. St. Ignatius started reading these two books. As time went on, he was still thinking about his knightly deeds of gallantry, but he discovered that when he stopped thinking about them, he was left morose. When he thought about Our Blessed Lord and His Saints, when he stopped thinking about them, he was still unexpectedly joyous. As he started to observe this phenomenon and thought about it, he realized that Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, was leading him towards the lives of the saints, so he decided to turn his back on the world and follow Our Blessed Lord. He initially started out on a mission to the Holy Land, but war broke out, and he went to Rome with some companions instead. There they got permission from the Pope to start the Society of Jesus. As time went on, their relationship became very close as Ignatius rose higher and higher in Mystical Contemplation and Prayer. Our Blessed Lord and St. Ignatius had a very close, working relationship.St. Ignatius' mystical experiences led him to help others discover how Christ was calling them to be his disciple. This mystical and practical experience went into writing his book of the Spiritual Exercises. It is used by a spiritual director to guide someone in encountering the action of God in their prayer and life, often particularly focussed on making an important life decision. An original element from Ignatius is his Rules for Discernment of Spirits. He described, from his own experiences, the patterns he learned for how one can decide whether an interior feeling or thought is from the good spirit, one's own spirit, or an evil spirit. The days spent "doing the Exercises" are a time for mediating on and responding to God's actions revealed in biblical and church history, one's own history, and present prayerful experiences. St. Ignatius and his companions were called by God to found the Society of Jesus to serve all people and the Catholic Church. They created a new kind of religious order that didn't practice the Liturgy of the Hours in common several times a day as previous orders had. This freed them to practice "contemplation in action" in their work as world missionaries, teachers scientists, theologians. They founded many schools around the world and developed an original curriculum. The Society of Jesus takes a special vow of obedience to the popes, who have given them specific missions to take on for the church. These are a very few brief points that begin to answer the question. There are numerous websites by and about the Jesuits (members of the Society of Jesus) that wiil expand the answer.
The soldiers placed a crown of thorns on Jesus's head as a mocking gesture of his claim to be the King of the Jews.
Satan didn't tempt Jesus to be a kind of messiah. Satan tempted Jesus to turn away from being the messiah. Satan tempted Jesus to turn away from God the father and to worship him, Satan
St. Bartholomew is considered an apostle because he was chosen by Jesus to be one of the twelve original disciples who spread the teachings of Christianity after Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. Bartholomew's apostleship is mentioned in the Bible, specifically in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Acts.
Jesus took a severe beating that included being whipped and scourged with a whip that had sharp pieces of metal or bone embedded in it, causing deep lacerations and intense pain. His sacrifice allowed for the forgiveness of sins and reconciliation between humanity and God.
