How does theory of evolution affect belief in the human soul?

Evolutionary theory does away with the requirement for gods to be involved in the becoming of humans. If one assumes that this means that no gods were involved, then this has certain theological implications. For one thing, it would no longer be necessary to speculate about the nature of the soul, since there's no reason to assume such a thing exists. However, evolutionary theory, even though it makes gods unnecessary, does nothing to prove they don't exist. One may therefore believe without risk of being factually inaccurate that gods do in fact exist, and that souls likewise exist.AnswerIt does not. Evolution is a fact, not a theory. Evolutionary theory explains how evolution works.Answer The very fact that evolution itself has different theories tells us that it cannot be believable. REMEMBER THIS: THAT AN IDEA THAT HAS CONTRADICTIONS WITHIN ITSELF, UNLESS QUALIFIED, CANNOT BE TRUE. Evolution is definitely not qualified to be true. As for the question. Show me a person who believes in evolution, and I'll show you a person who doesn't believe in the human soul. Evolution claims that we evolved from a lower form of life, which evolved from an even lower form of life, which evolved from NOTHING. If we have evolved from nothing, it's impossible to have a soul. But the fact that GOD created us in HIS IMAGE (not a bacteria's), and that He gave us spirits, is the reason why we have spirits and souls and a conscience.Answer:Evolution was disingenuously conceived with the implicit purpose of attempting to make God superfluous, following in the footsteps of Anaximander, Lamarcke and others. It was embraced with glee, worldwide, almost overnight, for that very reason: many people don't like the idea of a Lord above. However, Evolution has been badgered by intractable problems since its outset. Darwin himself noted the lack of transitional fossils. One problem that scientists still argue over is how consciousness works. Is it electrical impulses or is it an epiphenomenon? The more that the human mind is researched, the more its wonders are revealed. The world's most powerful supercomputer has one-half the information capacity of the brain of a common mouse. To believers, the existence of the human soul is a matter of tradition and is pretty self-evident too. Taking it into account solves many mysteries and makes this world part of a much larger picture.

How can you apply the parable of the mustard seed in your life?

There were two different illustrations regarding the mustard seed that Jesus used.In one, he likened the "Kingdom of the heavens" to a mustard grain, in the way that it starts off very small, but grows to be a large tree in which you can take refuge , just like birds take refuge in a tree. (Matt. 13:31,32 this illustration is also recorded by Mark and Luke) This illustration has come true because the Christian congregation started off small but is now worldwide. We can apply this in our lives by taking the same action the birds do when they seek refuge in a tree. This would imply taking a course of action to align yourself with the "Kingdom of the Heavens".The second illustration where he used the mustard seed is found later in Matt.17:19,20 (Luke also records this illustration). His disciples were unable to expel a demon and they asked him why they were not able to. Jesus then relates that if they had the faith the size of a mustard seed they would be able to move mountains. It was a lack of faith that caused the disciples to fail at expelling the demon. We can apply this in our lives by realizing the power of faith. In Hebrews chapter 11, the apostle Paul describes many powerful things done by worshipers of God through faith. We can apply it in our day to strengthen our belief and hope in the things "unseen". This is done by a study of God's word, prayer, relying on God when we need help, and by having confidence and hope in the promises he has set for us throughout the bible.

Did Jesus purge the Temple at the beginning of his ministry John 2 v 13 or before he was arrested Matthew 21 v 12 - a time gap of about 3yrs?

Theologians recognize the possibility of the event having occured twice, once at the beginning and once at the end of Jesus' ministry. It must be remembered that there is no requirement for any particular event to be recorded in any of the Gospels but simply that what is recorded was true to fact. John specifically mentions that he left out many of the details of Jesus' life because there was simply too much material to record it all.Not every Gospel writer records every miracle or every saying of Jesus either and so it is quite reasonable to conclude that Jesus did this twice. Jesus' ministry and teachings aroused the ire of the authorities from the very beginning.Other scholars note that John is far less interested in exact chronology than the synoptic authors and that he does not actually pinpoint which passover is referred to in 2:13 in relation to the chronology of Jesus' life. These scholars suggest therefore a single cleansing with of course no conflict or confusion as is alleged. Thus, although the cleansing in John is placed in terms of the chapter which records the beginning of Jesus' ministry, John does not state that the cleansing occured then.Edersheim points out that the Gospel writers would almost have considered it blasphemous to propose to write a truly chronological history of Jesus' life. This was a reflection of the high regard they had for Him as their Lord and master. Such an obsession with exact chronology as is held by the modern 21st century mind was unknown to those of first century Palestine. They sought rather to put forward certain key events in Jesus' life and to draw suitable teachings from those events. Thus in either of these two cases there is no necessity to pose any kind of contradiction or conflict between the various writers and between the writers and the actual historical record of Jesus' life. What is certain is that he cleansed the temple, Edersheim noting that this event was not unpopular with the people who recognized the degree of exploitation coming from the family of Annas, the likely owners of the whole racket.A Second View Point:Evidence for Two Cleansings of the Temple: In Mark's gospel, the cleansing of the Temple is one of the last things that Jesus does in his public ministry. It is an event that leads directly to the arrest and execution of Jesus. Matthew and Luke were both based on Mark's gospel, and so they also have the cleansing of the Temple shortly after Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. John, in contrast, tells about Jesus cleansing the temple at the beginning of the gospel narrative. It is in the second chapter, shortly after the miracle of the wine. A close reading gives the impression that John wants us to see these events as closely following one upon the other. He is maintaining a rather precise account of the timing of the crucial events at the outset of our Lord's ministryIf one accepts the accounts of the Gospels at face value, there are obviously two temple cleansings. The first occurred at the outset of our Lord's earthly ministry and is described by John. The second takes place at the end of our Lord's public ministry, and it is the incident which appears to precipitate His death by crucifixion. There are reputable theologians who are troubled that the one-cleansing theory receives any support from conservative scholarship. The text is straightforward. From their perspective, those who accept it as the inspired Word of God should accept its statements without feeling obliged to change them. It is not at all difficult to believe there are two cleansings, one at the beginning of our Lord's ministry, and the other at the end. Why do some want to challenge the text, based solely upon their own presuppositions? If Jesus fed 5,000 in one place and 4,000 in another, can we not believe there were two similar, but separate, miracles? Dare we "correct" the inspired text because we think this miracle comes "too early" in our Lord's ministry? Who are we to say what God can do, or when? Do we really believe Jesus could not get away with cleansing the temple twice? No one could arrest Him, or put Him to death until it was "His time"? Soldiers who came to arrest Him fell before Him when He spoke. And yet do we dare to think He could not go into the temple and cleanse it daily if He willed? The objections to taking the text literally are not only weak, they are presumptuous.

When did Israel become modern?

This question is difficult to understand. Israel, the country, was modern from its outset. Its people were a product of the decades and centuries when they lived. Israelis drive cars, use banks, etc. If "modern" is a euphemism for "first-world country", then Israel became modern in the late 1960s and early 1970s when its economy really took off.

Why did Sukkot develop into a harvest festival type of celebration?

It didn't develop into a harvest festival. At the outset, the Torah describes it as such (Exodus 23:16), in addition to its commemorating events in the wilderness (Leviticus 23:43). Many of the Torah's commands have multiple purposes.
