Francis worked at times in his father's cloth business but spent most of his time partying , brawling and having fun with his friends. He then tried being a knight for a time but was taken prisoner during a war with a neighboring town. During his year in prison he started undergoing a conversion. He renounced his father's wealth and his inheritance's and became an itinerant preacher and reformer and assisted the poor and sick. He eventually attracted a ragtag band of followers that became the foundation of a religious order of friars - the Franciscans.
