A:Matthew's Gospel: Jesus said goodbye to the disciples in a mountain in Galilee, instructing them to go forth and teach all nations. The gospel does not say where Jesus went, but that he would be with them always.

Luke's Gospel: Jesus said goodbye to the disciples near Bethany on the evening of his resurrection, and was taken bodily up into heaven.

John's Gospel: Jesus said goodbye to the disciples near the Sea of Galilee. The gospel does not say where Jesus went, but that the beloved disciple (commonly assumed to be John) would live until his return. The reference to Jesus' return suggests that Jesus went up to heaven. We can not say why Jesus did not return within the lifetime of the beloved disciple as promised.

Mark's Gospel: This originally ended at verse 16:8 with the young man telling the women that Jesus was risen and they fled in terror, telling no one. In this gospel, Jesus did not say goodbye to the disciples. The 'Long Ending' (verses 16:9-20) was added much later, largely based on Luke's Gospel, and says that Jesus was taken up into heaven.

Acts of the Apostles: Written by the same author as Luke's Gospel but some time later, this also says that Jesus was taken bodily up into heaven, but this time near Mount Olivet and rather long after the resurrection.

What was Mary told to do after finding tomb empty?

In Matthew's Gospel, the angel who rolled away the stone told Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to go quickly and tell the disciples that Jesus was risen. On the way to tell the disciples, they met Jesus, who told them to tell the disciples to go to Galilee, where he would meet them.Mark's Gospel has a similar account. The tomb was already open when Mary Magdalene, the other Mary and Salome arrived. The young man they found inside the tomb told them to go quickly and tell the disciples that Jesus was risen and to go to Galilee, where he would meet them, but they ran away and told no one.In Luke's Gospel, the two men who were in the tomb told the women what had happened. They were not told to do anything, but nevertheless they told the disciples, who did not believe them.In John's Gospel, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb while it was still dark, but found the stone had been taken away. She did not know that the tomb was empty and spoke to no one, but ran and told Peter and the "disciple whom Jesus loved".

What was the name of the garden that Jesus prayed in and the disciples fell asleep?

The Garden of Gethsemane was a place located on the Mount of Olives that Jesus often resorted to for prayer and communion with His Father. Just before Judas' betrayal and nearing the time of His crucifixion, Jesus travelled to Gethsemane with His disciples so that He could pray. While Jesus was praying, His disciples fell asleep. The entire account can be found in Matthew 26:36-45, Mark 14:32-41, and Luke 22:39-46. Matthew 26:36 "Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder." Matthew 26:40 "And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?"

Where did Jesus meet the disciples after the resurrection?

A:There are some different answers to this depending on the gospel relied on. The reason for this is that the first New Testament gospel to be written, now known as Mark's Gospel, originally ended at verse 16:8, with no appearances of the risen Jesus. When the authors of Matthew and Luke copied mark's Gospel, they had no guidance from Mark as to what happened next yet, working independent of each other, they both wanted to give their readers proof that Jesus had been raised from the dead. Because of a suggestion about Galilee earlier in Mark, Matthew has Jesus meet the disciples at a mountain in Galilee, where he said farewell and sent them to all nations to teach the gospel. Luke has Jesus meet the eleven at a meal in the upper room, in Jerusalem, then he took them out on the road to Bethany, where he was taken bodily up into heaven.John's Gospel was loosely based on Luke, but the Johannine community appears to have been involved in a minor dispute with a community that followed St Thomas as its patron. In the corresponding meeting, Jesus first met only ten of the disciples (with Thomas absent) and breathed on them, saying (John 20:22), "Receive ye the Holy Ghost." Not only did Thomas miss out on receiving the Holy Spirit (John's author was unaware of the account in Acts of the Apostles), but was shown to be a 'Doubting Thomas' when Jesus met all eleven disciples in the same room eight days later. After the two meetings in the upper room, Jesus met the disciples at the Sea of Galilee. The 'Long Ending' (verses 16:9-20) that we now have on Mark's Gospel more or less agrees with Luke and has Jesus meet the disciples at as meal in the upper room in Jerusalem.

Why did Jesus go to Galilee?

It is only in Matthew's Gospel (26:32) and Mark's Gospel (14:28) that Jesus tells the disciples that he will see them in Galilee. Again in Matthew's Gospel (28:10) the risen Jesus tells the women to tell the disciples that he will see them in Galilee. In Mark's Gospel (16:7), the young man inside the tomb repeats the message that Jesus had previously given the disciples, to meet him in Galilee. In Matthew's Gospel, Jesus really did meet the disciples in a mountain in Galilee, just as he had told them he would. This is the one gospel that properly links Jesus' instruction to what happens later. Mark's Gospel originally ended at verse 16:8, with the young man telling the women that Jesus was risen and they fled in terror, telling no one. This allows us to assume that Jesus might well have met the disciples there, even if the Gospel does not say so. However, the 'Long Ending' (verses 16:9-20) was subsequently added, and this removes any possibility of Jesus planning to meet the disciples in Galilee, since it portrays him as meeting them at a meal in Jerusalem, where he gave them a parting message. It would not have made sense in Luke's Gospel for Jesus to say that he would meet the disciples in Galilee because, after his resurrection, he met them in Jerusalem and was then taken bodily up into heaven on the very evening of his resurrection. Again, in John's Gospel it would have made little sense for Jesus to say that he would meet the disciples in Galilee because he met them twice in Jerusalem, although he later did meet them in Galilee.

Who were Jesus's best friends?

As God and Jesus are no respecter of persons, all who have ever existed and will exist are His best friends. We are all His brothers and sisters and He loves us all equally and has no favorites. However, Jesus, like many of us, had an inner circle within the disciples. John, Peter and James were known to be his intimate buddies. He asked them to go with Him on the mountain when He was transfigured and when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane.
