This account is in John's gospel chapter 5, verses 2-9. The oldest manuscript records omit verse 4 which identifies an angel as the cause of the water being stirred up. Verse 7 does appear in all the manuscript records in which the invalid man makes reference to the water being stirred up and implies that it is somehow associated with an opportunity for healing.
It should be appropriate to say that it is immaterial who the angel is if scripture does not make mention of the name, and furthermore that there was likely no angel present at all.
In fact, other than this verse, I cannot remember of any reference of an angel being associated with healing. Angels were sent by God to communicate His word or to execute judgment at His command. Never were they to be instruments of mercy, such an action God has left for Himself alone.
The angel at Bethesda who troubled the waters was not named in The Bible. The story appears in the Gospel of John, where an angel would periodically stir up the waters at the pool of Bethesda, believed to have healing powers.
The angel above the nativity is commonly referred to as the Angel of the Lord or the Christmas Angel.
The angel who brought the word of Allah to the Prophet Muhammad was Angel Gabriel (Jibreel in Arabic).
In Christian theology, the seven archangels are commonly associated with the seven virtues: Michael with fortitude, Gabriel with hope, Raphael with charity, Uriel with faith, Raguel with justice, Sariel with prudence, and Remiel with temperance. Each archangel is believed to embody and guide individuals in practicing these virtues in their lives.
Saint Matthew is not an angel, but rather one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ as described in the New Testament. He is depicted as a human figure in Christian tradition, not as an angel.
The angel Gabriel told Mary that she was going to conceive and give birth to Jesus, the Son of God. This event is known as the Annunciation and is described in the Bible in the Gospel of Luke.
Troubled water in dreams represents uneasy emotions and shifting conditions. There are a number of different biblical references that might apply, but their meanings differ according to the various contexts. The troubled waters at the pool of Bethesda, (John 5: 3-5) indicated the presence of an angel and an opportunity for healing, whereas when Jesus calmed the troubled waters of the Sea of Galilee, (John 6:18-20) the waters could be taken as representing fear and opposing forces.
The Angel of Bethesda was created in 1724.
A Bethesda is a poetic term for a location whose waters are supposed to have curative properties.
