Mark is commonly believed to be written for a Roman audience, mainly because of his emphasis on action and the omission of details of lesser interest to them.

The Gospel of Mark was likely addressed to Roman Christians. Mark's Gospel emphasizes Jesus's actions and power, appealing to a Roman audience interested in power and authority. It is believed to have been written to encourage and strengthen the faith of early Roman Christians facing persecution.

Mark's gospel (Good News) is addressed to disciples/believers down through the centuries. He wants his readers to draw encouragement and strength from the life and example of Jesus. At the time Mark wrote his gospel, the Christian community were under severe persecution from Nero in A.D.64 and he wants to give encouragement all believers. His gospel was not directed to a specific person but to all believers down the ages.

Mark's Gospel could scarcely have been written for Galileans because they would have been puzzled by the geographic errors in the book. Many Christians believe it was written for a Roman audience, although against this is the fact that it was written in Greek Koine, which few Romans would have understood - yet the author appears to have known Latin, the language of the Romans, and therefore could have written a Latin gospel. The Gospel of Mark was probably written for a Near Eastern audience, but not a Galilean one.
