Another answer from our community:

Sin is said to have transcended all the way down from the years of Adam and Eve. When they ate the forbidden fruit after God had instructed them not to, he cursed man with sin and said that all have fallen short of the glory of God and will always need the mercy and payments of the Lord to carry the burden of all of our sins.

Is man a sinner because he sins or does he sin because he sins?

"man is a sinner because we are born in to it"--This person is correct in the sense that each man is born with sin. Unfortunately Adam and Eve lost perfection after having disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. How do we know everyone is born with sin without exception? The Bible tells us in the book of Romans chapter 5 verse 12, which states, "That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned." Not only does this text explain why we all must grow old and die in this system of things, but it also explains why we all are born with sin. But each on of us has a hope of being forgiven of sin and one day living in a paradise here on earth. In the same book of Romans but at 3:23-24, which reads, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of Go, and it is as a free gift that they are being declared righteous by his undeserved kindness through the release by the ransom paid by Christ Jesus." So here we see that Jesus' death has opened the doorway for mankind to be forgiven and declared righteous, even though we are all born sinners. What are three essential elements that make a sin mortal?

All sin is mortal (define:mortal - subject to death) Sin in its very nature is worthy of death. (James 1:15, Romans 5:12, Romans 6:23) Vicarious atonement would render the sin "already paid for" I John 5:16-17 speaks of sins that are not mortal. The key is I John 5:18, so there is only one essential element that makes sin mortal... 1) The sin is mortal and leads to death if one is not born of God. Being born of God means that you have been redeemed from the curse of the law. The unredeemed will die for their sin because they do not have a vicarious substitute who died for their sins.

Original sin comes from the Augustinian tradition that we are all descended from Adam and Eve, and therefore are all guilty of their sin in the garden of Eden. Original sin means that you are born into sin, hence in the Victorian era it was very common for a child to be baptised as soon as possible to rid them of said sin. Many people do not accept however, that newborns are inherently evil, and the idea of original sin is widely rejected by many denominations. For more information, research the Augustinian Theodicy.
