After all they were the ones who caused his heartbreak by selling Joseph as a slave and allowing their Father to think that he had been killed by a wild beast. Joseph's brothers wanted to kill him out of jealousy and resentment. They were envious of his favored status with their father and his prophetic dreams that seemed to predict he would rule over them someday. This jealousy ultimately led them to conspire to get rid of him.
