Because he was their youngest brother and they wanted to protect him. They were also concerned about their Father if anything should happen to Benjamin. After all they were the ones who caused his heartbreak by selling Joseph as a slave and allowing their Father to think that he had been killed by a wild beast. They thought it might kill him to lose Benjamin as well.
