they were missionaries who wanted to teach the Indians about the Bible. the main people were Marcus Whitman who traveled west from St.Louis along the oregon trail telling pioneers go west to oregon because it was claimed to be pioneer paradise. the other person henry spelding worked with the nez perce who just wanted to learn about weapons and tools in the religion. unfortunetly measles came in 1847 and the settlers and Indians got sick. the settlers survived but most Indians didnt so they claimed they were trying to poison them and then killed marcus and his wife.
