Why did the Exodus take place?

The Exodus took place because Jehovah God decided to deliver His people from slavery under the power of Phar'aoh.

Read Exodus 5: 1-18 which show Phar'aoh refusal to set the Israelites free.

After being faced with the 10 Plagues that brought many sufferings on the Egyptians, due to Phar'aoh's stubborness, od's people were set free.

Read Exodus 8: 20-10: 29.

The Israelites were led to the Red Sea, where they were told to set up camp, where they realised that Phar'aoh and his army were chasing them.

That is when God told Mosses to stretch out his hand over the Red Sea and God made a strong wind blow all night long, and the Sea was split in two, where the millions of Israelites marched on dry ground, between the walls of water, to the other side.

Once they were over on the other side, the walls of water collapsed on the Egyptian army, where Phar'aoh and his men died.

This story is a reminder that, no government in power, can resist God's decision to save His people. Read Psalm 106: 9-12; 136: 11-15; Hebrew 11: 29; 13: 6.

2 Peter 3: 13 reminds us of what our future holds in these words:

"But there are new heavens ( God's government) and a new earth ( a new society of humans ) that we are awaiting according to his promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell.

The new society of humans are those who have put forth daily effort to live up to God's requirements, according to what is written in God's word.

John 17: 3 is the recipe given by God to be part of the righteous ones that will have a happy future on earth . Read Psalm 37: 29

Jacob left is areal to go to Egypt where Joseph had been ruler, as there was a famine, later there might have been many who went for food and stayed there, during the famine.. Later the Egyptians kept them as slaves.

Jacob with his family were invited (by Joseph who was already in Egypt) to live in the Egyptian province of Goshen. There was a famine in Canaan so they accepted the invitation.

It was only later that they were gradually reduced to slavery. Moses, who had been raised by the daughter of the pharaoh (unfortunately nobody knows exactly which pharaoh) but had been gone for 40 years, saw the bad and unfair conditions of his people and led and freed the Israelites from Egypt. They went to Canaan, and occupied it for themselves. God helped them. It took 40 years to get there. Moses died just before they entered the land of promise.

Jacob had 12 sons. One son, Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt by his brothers. In time Joseph became a very important person in Egypt. In the mean time a great famine occurred in the land of Canaan where Jacob and his remaining sons lived. Jacob sent some of his sons to Egypt to purchase wheat so they would not starve in Canaan. Unbeknown to the brothers who went to Egypt to purchase wheat they were introduced to the man in charge (Joseph). After a time Joseph was revealed to them and they returned home telling their father that Joseph was alive and well in Egypt. Joseph invited his father, Jacob and his brothers and their families to come and live in Egypt, 70 persons in all. At that time Jacob and sons with families moved to Egypt.
