The Mythology behind Holi:
1.Vaishnava belief:
Prahlada was an ardent worshipper of Vishnu. However, his father, demon Hiranyakashipu, hated Vishnu and did everything to prevent his son from worshipping Vishnu. He was even ready to get his son killed. He asked his sister, demon Holika, to sit on a pyre with Prahlada on her lap. Holika was immune to fire. Vishnu saved Prahlada and killed Holika.
2. Shaiva belief:
After the death of his wife Sati, Shiva went into deep meditation. Parvati instructed Kama, the god of love, to bring him out of meditation. Kama shot an arrow at Shiva. The infuriated Shiva opened his third eye and reduced Kama's body to ashes. The Holi bonfire is supposed to commemorate this.
3. Belief of worshippers of Krishna:
Krishna used to complain to his mother about his dark complexion and the fair complexion of Radha. His mother used to apply dark colors to Radha to make her look dark.
It is also supposed to commemorate pranks played by Krishna on Gopis.
The absolute fact about Holi:
To understand why we celebrate Holi we must know about the seven basic Hindu gods.
The seven basic Hindu gods:
They are,
1. Dreaming force - Indra (god of dreaming)
2. Illusory force - Shakti (god of illusion)
3. Voluntary foce - Brahma (god of creation/new life)
4. Semi voluntary force - Vishnu (god of preservation)
5. Involuntary force - Shiva (god of determination)
6. Status altering force - Shani (god of status change)
7. Compulsive force - Yama (god of compulsion)
Of the seven basic Hindu gods Vishnu, Shiva and the gods associated with them are the most reliable. They make us disciplined.
The other gods make our life colorful. However, they are too risky to use.
1. The dreaming force and Compulsive force are so unreliable that we believe that Indra and Yama play a role after our death only.
2. Brahma is rarely worshipped.
3. Shakti goddesses are supposed to be incarnations of Parvati.
The reason for celebrating Holi:
We should not use forces other than Vishnu and Shiva forces.
The other forces prevent worship of Vishnu and Shiva and encourage us to adapt an easy, temporary, deceitful and risky life.
Holi is a symbolic outlet for all other forces at the end of the year, under the supervision of the society. Since these forces make life colorful we throw color on each other.
becuse it is a speacial day
Hindus celebrate Holi to mark the arrival of spring, the victory of good over evil, and to promote unity and brotherhood among people. It is a time to forgive and forget, play with colors, and enjoy festive foods with family and friends.
Hindus traditionally worship Lord Vishnu and his avatar, Lord Krishna, during the Holi festival, celebrating the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring. Lord Krishna is especially associated with playing Holi with his devotees, and his playful and mischievous nature is celebrated during this festival.
