Can an andaconda really eat a human?

It depends what you mean by eat. If you are meaning to swallow whole than the only snake that can be capable of that would have to be an anaconda, yes. But the odds of an average anaconda swallowing a human whole depend on the size of the snake. Other than that it is certainly possible for an anaconda to eat a human. Typically they can only swallow whole. And since an anaconda is capable of eating crocodiles, boars, cattle, and any other mammal that crosses its path a human would be no different.

I'm pretty certain a Boa would not be able to eat a fully grown human, as you feed a snake food that is no larger than the thickest part of its body, The urban legend that a Boa Constrictor was sizing up it's owner is preposterous in my opinion, everyone seems to have heard that story so I doubt the previous answer was in anyway truthful.

Obviously if you have small children it's better to be safe than sorry as I doubt they would get eaten but they may be smothered, they are big snakes. Also exercise caution if you do buy one not to leave it unattended as they probably have some capacity to cause injury if so desired.

The (Asiatic) Reticulated Python (Python reticulatus) is a member of the Pythonidae family and has and average length of 15ft to 25ft however, it is possible for some to grow near 30ft with a weight of 300lbs; the largest was measured at 33ft; they can be located in Southeast Asia and can be found in the tropical rainforest's, a member of the Boa family the female can have as many as 100 eggs at a time (Average is 60 eggs) and the hatchlings are at least 2 ft (61 cm) length, life span of the python is 25 to 30 years. The diet consists of small mammals and birds, the larger the python the larger the prey which include pigs, dogs, cats and primates, etc., the python ambushes it's prey and suffocates the victim rather then crushing it, after swallowing the prey whole digestion takes many days to several weeks depending on the size of the prey.

A full grown anaconda could probably swallow a human, but they do not swallow their prey live; they kill it first by constriction. A snake large enough to view humans as potential prey could easily overpower and kill a human.
