Unfortunately this happens. People, for whatever reason will think that it would be neat to have a crocodile as a pet and remove it from its' native environment as a hatchling, moving it to a colder environment. When it becomes too big to be "cute", they will simply release it in a cold climate where the crocodile quickly succumbs to the cold and dies. Unfortunately this happens far to often to crocodiles and many other species.
