Do leopard geckos need to get baths?

As a keeper, we are trying to replicate their natural environment. In the wild a gecko will not need to take a bath. I recommend baths/ saunas for geckos that have stuck shed on their eyes, feet, or toes but it's not a weekly or daily occurrence.

If a gecko has gotten some sort of prepared diet or mashed fruit stuck to itself, it is not best to bath the animal in water. This can ultimately kill the animal due to it's sensitivities to extreme cold and extreme heat. The best way to treat this is to give the gecko a "sauna". A sauna for a gecko is usually a shoe box sized Tupperware container with holes drilled across the top of the container and lid. Fill the container with paper towel, 2-4 layers work fine depending on quality. Moisten the paper towels with room temperature water (65-80F) and allow the animal to rest on the paper towel for up to 20 minutes. If this does not work, change the paper towel and create a solution that is 1 / 2 part sugar - 2 parts water and moisten the paper towels again and try again for 20 minutes. If this is not removed it can restrict the area and could cut circulation and cause the limb, joint, area to die, which would have to be amputated or could lead to serious infection.

Geckos are very clean animals and you do not have to bathe them at all. If they are shedding, they should eat their skin and pretty much clean themselves.
