How can you tell how old a leopard gecko is by looking at it?

There's no easy way to tell. If you don't know the hatch date yourself and the person who sold it to you is unsure as well, there are only rough guidelines to use.

Note: Counting spots doesn't work.

It's nearly impossible to tell the exact age of any reptile by looking at it, since many factors will effect how fast it grows: If it's fed to much, it could grow faster then normal. If its neglected and not fed enough its growth can easily be stunted. If its in a cage too small, it's growth could be stunted as well.

Telling the age of any reptile is often hard because the way it grows is directly proportionate to how it is fed, what their environment is like, and it's overall care. However, I have owned Eyelash Crested Geckos and I have found this method of keeping track of them to be helpful...and pretty easy...There are also ways of measuring their weight as well. Remember, this is only an estimate, most healthy Geckos should be in this general range.

Baby geckos are about 1-1.5 inches. Adolescents are about 2-3 inches. Adults are about 4 inches plus.
