Burmese pythons (like most pythons) suffocate their victim's. They then swallow their victim's whole. They can also cause nasty bites as their teeth are inward (like a cat's claws) - If the python bit you, a lot of damage would be caused if either you or the python pulled back, if not only a small cut/scratch would be there.
