It hunts to survive, mates with other gators and produce offspring. It also maintains its core body temperature by going sunning itself if it feels it gets too cold, and goes into the cool water if it feels it's getting too warm.

How many people have been attacked by saltwater crocodiles a year? - It is hard to say....probably a couple of hundred people every year throughout Indonesia, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and eastern India. Only 1 person on average is killed by a saltwater crocodile in Australia ever year due to increased public awareness and a lack of relying on the rivers for bathing, drinking, etc. The Nile crocodile probably kills several hundred (maybe even a thousand) people per year in Africa due to it's proximity to impoverished human populations who use rivers on a daily basis. The mugger crocodile attacks a few dozen people in India ever year.

Yes they can. Salt Water Croc is just it's name, they can swim in fresh and salt water. They are the worlds largest reptiles.
