Sulcata tortoises are very fast-growing, but actual growth rates vary tremendously between individuals, and are also impacted by the quality of care, and the diet.

They may reach their adult size of 150 pounds in 5 to 10 years. Expect growth rates of at least 3 to 4 inches per year.

This is a tortoise that should be kept only by someone who lives in the South and has a large outdoor pen, or someone who has a large room and plenty of money to house the tortoises indoors over the winter. (They absolutely need an outdoor summer enclosure).

If you wouldn't consider keeping a goat, a sulcata is probably a bad choice! This is a large grazing animal.
