Rattlesnakes are venomous but the venom is separate from other fluids produced by their bodies (blood, saliva etc.)

The release of venom through its hollow fangs is controlled by the snake. When biting defensivly, as opposed to hunting prey, the snake may not release and venom at all when it bites.
