i never thought there was such a thing so probably not No... The alligator snapping turtle is a protected species that lives in the southern united states. Especially in the Florida everglades. Trust me they are real. You can find pictures of them on google images type "alligator snapping turtle." You can also see them at zoos.
In most states, no. A few states do prohibit some species or all species of snapping turtle from being kept as pets. They are most commonly prohibited in states where they are not naturally occurring, due to fear that pet owners will tire of them and release them into the environment. This fear is probably justified - snapping turtles can grow quite large, must be handled with great care, and require significant effort and expense to maintain, which makes them poor pets, generally. If you are in doubt whether snapping turtles are legal in your state and don't want to pay a lawyer to look it up, you might contact a seller. They often know which states allow snapping turtles as pets or not.
it is illegal to have an alligator as a pet in almost every state except its native states.
It's illegal because turtles can carry dangerous and fatal deceases like Salmonella.
I live in Panama City Beach, Florida the Redneck Rivera and snapping turtles live here also. I added a link to an article I wrote about snapping turtles & included a picture of a huge one I rescued from fishing line left in the water.
Aquatic turtles, such as snapping turtles and red-eared sliders, live for several decades, and can potentially outlive human beings. I remember reading an article about the oldest known aquatic turtle still alive in the United States; it was around 60 years old (almost as old as its owner). I tried to find the article again, but I couldn't. Sorry. Sea turtles can live even longer; it is not unusual for them to live well past 100 years old.
In Louisiana it is legal for holders of a valid recreational fishing license to posses "one per day per person, per vehicle." Other states will have different laws.
An American alligator is a species of alligator native to the southeastern United States, Latin name Alligator mississippiensis.
