I know Red Eared Slider Turtles do that before mating. Males do it to females.
For Red Eared Turtles a female has short nails and a male as long sharp nails.
No you can not!! If your turtle has long nails that means you have a male turtle. If you cut his nails you are risking it to bleed to death and be in an excruciating pain. Long nails on your male turtle is natural and normal and is not a problem.
Males have longer nails on their front paws (they use them to attract females before mating), and the tail of male is longer and thicker.
While it is difficult to determine, it's not impossible. Boys have longer claws and tails, which becomes more apparent as they get over 1 year old. I have a 1 1/2 yr old male and I noticed his nails had a growth spurt 2 months ago and are now very pronounced. My advice is to go to the pet store and ask for the turtles ages, then look at the different lengths in both the nails and tails. Good luck.
Adult male turtles have long nails on their front feet. Females and juveniles don't.
this is the real answerthe boy turtle has a long tail and long nails, the girl turtle has a short tail and short nails (I Have Four Painted Turles)
If he has long nails he's a boy . If you look underneath his shell (the bottom part) and the black spots at the bottom of it is close together it is a boy. You cannot tell if your turtle is a boy or a girl until it's 10 cm long.
Male or Female Turtle???if you need to know a boy or a girl you look at the belly...a male is flat and a girl is kinda sacky...you know to keep the eggs in. BY THE WAY i got this from a library book!!! no liein. well look at the nails,if girl the claws are short,if boy the nails are long, also the male popps his head out more then girls, and girls tails are usasuly more tucked and the boys have more thicker tails too!!!!
the male painted turtle wiggles it's nails in front of the female turtles
If your thumb nails are yellow, this could be because you smoke. It could also be due to problems with nutritional imbalances.
Yellow nails are sometimes due to stains such as by saffron or turmeric. If not by food, the nails may be yellow due to fungus or underlying health issues. Such possible health issues include psoriasis or Type II diabetes.
box turtles live underground. they have sharp nails for digging
