Did Chick-Fil-A ever refuse service to gay people?

Chick-fil-A, as a company issued the following statement.

"Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena."

and Chick-fil-A officials stated in an internal document that they "will treat every person equally, regardless of sexual orientation."

Note that Dan Cathy, COO of Chick-fil-A had earlier expressed his personal views opposing redefining marriage to include same-sex couples. These were public statements by Mr. Cathy expressing his views and were not made on behalf of Chick-fil-A. Two of his public comments were:

"I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, "We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage". I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

and

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that. ... We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that. We intend to stay the course. We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."

On the basis of these statements and Chick-fil-A's donations to some groups that disagreed with re-defining marriage, Chick-fil-A was labeled a "Hate Group" by some LGBT organizations that were pushing for the redefinition of marriage to include same-sex and transgender couples.

Note that Cathy has been personally consistent with trying to adhere to biblical principles as he understands by also choosing to not operate their stores on Sundays.

According to Dan Cathy, CEO of Chik-Fil-A, the company believes in the biblical definition of marriage. This is traditionally accepted to mean a union between a man and a woman not to be separated by divorce.

However, as of 2017, there are still 28 U.S. states where it is legal to fire someone for being gay, and when this happens, the employer does not have to disclose the reason for termination. Chick-fil-A operates restaurants in all of these states.
