Water is known as the universal solvent because it will dissolve most things (eventually). If you left a body in water long enough it'd dissolve. It has nothing to do with it being a hot-dog, just that water is so powerful; consider water's actions on rock over time!

My son is basing his 6th grade science project on this hypothesis. He is trying it with strawberry soda, root beer and Coke Zero. Will post outcome.

Yes if you look at the Nehru toxins on the side of the coca cola bottle and it says hydrochloric acid at 4.ph scale then it can dissolve a hot dog

It does have phosphoric acid in it, so it will dissolve eventually. But it does not " cook " as they used to tell us. Just took on the brown color.
