Israel has a very multifaceted cuisine, there is lots of influence ;from other countries. Where at one time, most people knew of blintzes and latkes, and dips. Israel has went in new directions with it's cuisine.Traditionally pork, rabbit and shellfish are forbidden. All dairy dishes are prepared separately, from meat dishes and desserts. Isreal-Mizrahi is similar to Asian cuisine: grilled meats, pastry(sweet and savory), rice and pita. Most desserts are of Turkish influence, like blancmange and baklava. Of course they love pita and unleaven breads. Labneh-which is a strained yogurt, and is used for dips and sauces .Shakshouka is becoming a popular dish in Israel, made with tomatoes, onion or garlic, spices and eggs. It is cooked over a low flame ,eggs are the last in. And usually is served with pita bread. Schnitzel is also be a up and coming dish there,as is gefilte fish. So Israel is taking the ethnic foods of other countries, and combining it with their own. In addition, all large cities have a wide variety of "imported" international cuisines -- Chinese, French, South American, and especially Italian, which uses many Mediterranean ingredients easily available in the area.
