A sealed bottom bracket generally offers better protection against dirt, moisture, and debris, leading to improved longevity and reduced maintenance compared to unsealed options. While unsealed bottom brackets can be lighter and easier to service, they are more susceptible to environmental damage. Ultimately, the choice depends on riding conditions and personal preferences regarding maintenance and weight. For most riders, sealed bottom brackets are often the preferred option for their durability and reliability.

How do you remove sealed American bottom brackets?

To remove a sealed American bottom bracket, first, you need to remove the pedals and crank arms to access the bottom bracket shell. Use a proper bottom bracket tool designed for American threaded systems, inserting it into the bottom bracket and turning it counterclockwise to unscrew the cups. If the cups are stubborn, applying penetrating oil and using a wrench for additional leverage may help. Once loose, unscrew the cups completely and remove the bottom bracket from the frame.

Your bike is making a clunckins sound what should you do The noise appears to be coming form the pedals but I'm not sure. Please help?

Well, depends if you have a 3, 2, or 1 peice crank. 2 and 3 peices, remove the crank arm, and slide out the other. Determine if you have sealed or unsealed bearings- unsealed you can see the balls in the bearing, sealed, nearly impossible to break. With a 1 peice, remove it through the bottom bracket. You may also have sand or dirt in the bottom bracket, and that may be what it is. It could also be rust, or a broken/dry bearing. You can easily fix that with some grease, and most sealed bearings are very inexspensive. By the way, I ride street, and i have this problem quite a lot. Are vacuum sealed clothes heavier than unsealed?

Vacuum-sealed clothes are not heavier than unsealed clothes; in fact, they are often lighter because the vacuum sealing removes air and compresses the fabric. This compression reduces the volume but does not change the actual weight of the clothing. Therefore, while vacuum-sealed clothes take up less space, their weight remains the same as when they are unsealed.

There isn't one. VW's have a "sealed" transmission. Unsealed through the transmission pan, there is a fill plug at the top of the pan, a drain plug at the bottom.
