Where the binding is mounted is all about personal preference. If you ski terrain park, a center mount could be more your style, where as if you ski all mountain, you may wish to mount farther back. Many skis come with a "recommended" line. You may wish to go from there. If you have further questions, any tech at your local ski shop should be able to answer all of your questions, and mount the bindings for you!
You can mount most bindings to K2 skis that are "flat" which do not have the built in metal flanges. Be sure to check the width of the brake so it will fit the width of the ski. For example the 09/10 Apache Xplorers come flat which have a smooth surface to drill and mount your bindings. They also came with integrated bindings that mount onto metal flanges that are built into the skis. You can only use the Marker MX binding with this ski as far as I know. I would call K2 in Washington and ask about the specific Apache ski you are interested in. The phone number is 800-426-1617 . Good Luck!

At the very least you need a 'snowboard', 'bindings' that mount to the board and 'boots' that strap into the bindings. You can snowboard with those 3 things. You may also want to consider clothing to keep you warm and dry, like jackets, gloves, goggles and under layers.
