Presuming that this is talking about an adult abused as a child, where they are at with the abuse can vary greatly. Talking with trusted friends or family members or journaling may be enough, but some may need therapy to help sort through their feelings and see that what happened was not their fault. The right therapist should not prescribe medications (psychiatrist) unless there are other issues, like depression or anxiety, involved.

There are a lot of good people in the world to care for, you do not need any contact with somebody that would abuse you. If you have been sexually abused seek help.
