Charlie carried a rabbit's foot for good luck in "Flowers for Algernon."
As Algernon and Charlie undergo the same operation and the same testing, Algernon's developments are good predictors of Charlie's near future. When Algernon begins to lose his intelligence, it is a chilling indication that Charlie's own mental gains will be short-lived. Algernon also symbolizes Charlie's status as a subject of the scientists: locked in a cage and forced to run through mazes at the scientists' whim, Algernon is allowed no dignity and no individuality. Charlie's freeing of Algernon from his cage and simultaneous decision to abandon the laboratory makes Algernon's physical liberation a symbol of, and a precursor to, his own emotional independence.
The doctors chose to test Charlie on the Algernon experiment because he had an intellectual disability and they believed that the experimental procedure had the potential to increase his intelligence. They saw Charlie as a good candidate due to his motivation and willingness to participate in the study.
Flowers for Algernon is simply about a man named Charlie Gordon who suffers from being mentally challenged. Charlie goes to a adult school daily to improve on his learning and education. Charlie takes many IQ tests and rarshock test to test his ability to comprehend on things and to determine how low his intelligence is. He also gets picked on a experiment that the two doctors Dr.Nemur and Dr.Strauss to see if he will get smarter within a short period of time. He writes progess reports in his book so the doctors will see if the experiment worked or not. Joe carp and Frank Reily are his "so called friends" at his job at the factory. They always take him out and gets him to drinking and embrasses him and he doesn't even realize it. You will have to read more through the story to get a better understanding. I would recommend this story to teens and even adults it is a good story.
It would be really funny if the person who asked this question has Mr.M as an La teacher. Just think of some stupid funeral song, or maybe a song about flowers! Never thought of that!
'Prince Charles' clematis is one such plant.
it's okay. we read it for school and it's a good 'school' book. It's kind of sad but happy at the same time. The main theme is: is ignorance bliss? so if you like that kind of thing it's interesting!!
She felt that it went against the will of God, and referenced the story of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, as described in the book of Genesis.
