In "Catherine, Called Birdy," Madam Joanna advises Catherine to find joy in simple pleasures and not to let the constraints of her medieval society stifle her spirit. She encourages Catherine to find happiness in the small moments and to embrace her own desires and passions, rather than conforming to societal expectations. Ultimately, Madam Joanna's advice encourages Catherine to be true to herself and to seek fulfillment on her own terms.
Joanna tells Birdy, or Catherine, "You are lucky, Little Bird, for you have wings. But you must learn how to master them. Look at the baron's hawk there on her perch. Just because she doesn't flap her wings all the time doesn't mean she can't fly."

Madame Joanna is the cousin of the King. Madame Joanna told fortunes to Catherine. This is what MY book says: Madame Joanna is a hundred years old, gray and puny, smaller even than Robin Smallbone's sister, who is not yet eight. Her face is wrinkled and brown and covered with gray hairs, her eyes are round and red, and she is missing all her teeth but the front two on top. It's funny, because Catherine thought she was gonna be beautiful....but CLEARLY she is not.
Charles V was the nephew of Catherine of Aragon. He was the son of Joanna of Castile and Philip the Handsome, making him the cousin of Catherine, who was the daughter of Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile. Their familial connection played a significant role in the political dynamics of the time, particularly during the events surrounding Henry VIII's desire to annul his marriage to Catherine.
Henry VIII wanted to marry Catherine of Aragon. After the death of Arthur Henry VII did not want Catherine or the money she brought to leave England so she was engaged to marry Henry. Henry VII however realized that Henry could contract a better marriage so there were talks that he would be engaged to one of Catherine's neices who was the daughter of Joanna of Castile and her husband Phillip the son of the Holy Roman Emperor.
Catherine of Aragon had three older sisters, the most famous of them was Juana la Loca (aka Juana/Joana of Castile). She was known for marrying Philip "the Handsome" of Castile, giving birth to Charles V (who later in Catherine's time would become the Holy Roman Emperor) and for exhibiting wild, erractic behavior (possibly due to schizophrenia).
Joanna the Mad produced only two monarhs. Unlike Joanna who was queen regnant (reigning queen, queen in her own right), her daughters were queens consort (queens due to their marriage to kings). Queens consort are not monarchs and they don't have any political power. Same case with Catherine d'Medici. Amsal
Catherine is a girl who wants everything to be her way. She does not like the rule that girl can't marry whomever they want. She also doesn't want to do chores, and she gets angry very easily. For instance the privy incident when she burnt it down with the suitor inside. She was like this throughout most of the entire book. Then she changed. At the end she knew that marrying whoever her father said was the rules. She then soon learned to like herself for the way she was. As Madame Joanna said, you are like a little bird you have wings but you need to master them. When Catherine changed so did the story. Catherine took the money from Shaggy Beard which meant she had to marry him. Then, he died in a brawl so she could marry Steven. It was a happy ending for Catherine.
