It means being faithful for the small things in ones life builds the person in terms of strength, and he can thus handle other larger larger things ( obstacles, responsibilities etc) in life.

It is about making a positive difference in the lives of the people around you, in the smaller circle, and building from there, with God's grace. One cannot reach beyond that, yet alone succeed in the small circle, if he wasn't faithful in the small things in life. These small things might turn out to be the best investment in ones life.
