The problem with Odysseus's men is that they admire him, but they don't listen to him.
Eurylochus, one of Odysseus' men, justified eating the cattle, and the other men joined him. They decided to do so after being on the verge of starvation.
He has his men bind him to the ship's mast.
His men were busy looting, and they did not listen to his prudent order to return to the ships and leave.
