Rehab is a very popular subject in today’s overwhelming news media environment. Probably the most prevalent association with rehab are the many young Hollywood starlets who frequent the place. Everyone from Lindsay Lohan to Brittany Spears, and all of the Tiger Woods and Jesse James’ in between, have had well-known stays in rehab. There are even many popular reality television shows that focus on sex rehab and drug rehab for celebrities. With all this talk of rehab, it is only natural for people to wonder about it. Is rehab something only for the rich and powerful? Does going to rehab mean that one is a loser? Is rehab a one time thing? Why do so many people go to rehab over and over? There are so many questions surrounding the subject.
Rehab can be a very important turning point in a person’s life. But the person has to have the drive and desire to get clean from their addiction. It is hard work, and many people do not succeed in working with the rehabilitation program to reclaim their lives from their addictions. This is the reason that so many people go to rehab two or more times. Even if the person does work the program and clean up her shattered life, she can still relapse quite easily. There are some people who believe that once a person has gone to rehab and kicked their addiction, they no longer have the problem. That is not true. People who beat their addictions are simply managing them and choosing not to give into them. They still have strong desires to do whatever it is that has them addicted, but they know that by doing those things, they will be sending themselves on a downward spiral back to the pit of despair that made them seek help in the first place. People who have beat addiction have incredibly strong will power. It may be impossible for people who have never grappled with such challenges to understand this.
People who go to rehab are not losers. Most people in the world have some sort of addiction that interferes with their lives. People who go to rehab to seek help simply have the courage to face their problems and deal with them.
