Hi,....to test the Thermostat......wait until it is cold....you will find it closed.....drop it into a cup/dish of boiling water.....and if its working correctly, you will see it open.
I bought one new in '76. Think it was 180.
A 24 volt heating only or a 24 volt heating/cooling (if you have ac on the unit)thermostat.
Wrong thermostat? Wrong installation procedure?

return it and get a new one
The steps involved in an AC thermostat replacement are: turning off the power to the AC unit, removing the old thermostat cover, disconnecting the wires from the old thermostat, removing the old thermostat from the wall, installing the new thermostat, connecting the wires to the new thermostat, attaching the new thermostat to the wall, and finally turning the power back on to test the new thermostat.
The steps involved in a home thermostat replacement are: turning off power to the thermostat, removing the old thermostat, labeling the wires, installing the new thermostat, connecting the wires, securing the new thermostat, and turning the power back on to test the new thermostat.
The old thermostat will simply lift out. Drop in the new thermostat. Put a new gasket on the thermostat housing. Secure the thermostat housing with the retaining bolts.
If your heat and air conditioner doesn't work on your 1989 Cadillac Eldo and you have install a new compressor, check the thermostat. The thermostat may be stuck close or has gone bad.
