It depends on the terms of the sale. If your agreement allowed that you could return it, then you could. If the agreement was that all sales are final or did not involve a return discussion, no.

Additional: Typically, a "garage sale" is an informal (even a social) event at which a homeowner will sell their used and no longer wanted household and/or personal items. They are usually not subject to the usual laws which govern commercial sales. As stated above, if you had some advance agreement with the seller about the item you bought you can only hope that they will honor their word. If you feel especially aggrieved you can possibly turn to small claims court for satisfaction, but, at sales such as those, if you bought it you own it. . . end of story.
