Test auctions can give you an idea of exactly how your listing will look when it goes live. However, it does seem a little unnecessary as you can achieve exactly the same result by starting to create a real listing and using the preview option before committing to list. Not only that, you will be charged exactly the same to create a test listing as you will to create a real listing even though buyers should not buy from your test listings.
